5 out of 5 stars Perfect   July 2, 2008
Great deal for 2 lazy susans. Spin perfectly, well balanced. The spin isn't very "loose" so on some surfaces I had to stick a rubberized jar opener underneath, no big deal. Would buy again, makes a great gift for new homeowners.

3 out of 5 stars Great idea...   April 28, 2008
Not the best design. The first thing I noticed out of the box was the way the two tiers of each piece are attached: a screw. A screw that was a problem in one case because somewhere between my house in CA and China that screw got horribly bent. Noting that the journey undoubtedly caused the damage forces me to think what will happen to that same screw when it's making those endless trips round on your table. Eventually a very sharp screw that is held into the top tier while the bottom tier is rotating it defies the laws of physics to hold. For one thing the top tier is heavier so the friction on the screw is greater and combining the force of gravity plus the fact that the screw is held only by a layer of bamboo allows potential for that screw to pop right through the top or fall out the bottom depending on the way it gets turned most frequently. Point being all in all the design concept would most likely fail without help but the material is a good resource.

However should you feel like playing handy man and those of you who have these should consider this: the better connector could be a dowel but a machine bolt secured with glue will do in the pre-drilled holes. I found this out when I pulled out the bent screw and did a little work on it. As it turns out I had just the right machine bolt and when I screwed it in it worked like a charm. Now the only problem is that my other susan had a chunk of bamboo missing and the whole lot is going back. So this product could have 5 stars if you're willing to do a little improvement. Next time I'll have my bolts ready and one other tip: hot glue works like magic on bamboo.

5 out of 5 stars Spinning Merrily Along   April 14, 2008
I got these when they were on special for under $20. They're beautiful, well made, and they spin very smoothly.

I'm not sure why the other reviewer thought they ought to have rubber pads -- they spin just fine without them. I have the larger one inside a cupboard for spices and the smaller one on the counter as a catch all for salt/pepper/honey/etc. Neither slides or acts funny. I don't think you need to worry about adding rubber pads unless you have an unusually slippery surface.

I am very pleased with my purchase. I see other bamboo lazy susans at department stores at a much higher price -- and you usually only get one. These are completely comparable in quality, and a much better deal!

4 out of 5 stars Only one thing is missing from these lazy susans.   February 12, 2008

I took a chance and ordered six sets when they were on a Black Friday sale. I'm not sorry, because they are really beautiful. The rotating mechanism, so far, seems to be reliable and sturdy. But it's hard to really tell because the bases of the lazy susans slip because there's nothing underneath to prevent them from skidding in the cabinets. I would think that, for the price of these sets, they could have stuck on some rubber "feet" or something. Now I have to go out and buy something before I can set these up and use them.

But they ARE beautiful! I expect they will last a very long time. If you get these, be sure to oil them with some suitable oil for wood. I hear bamboo is a quite thirsty wood, so I soaked mine well before wiping off the excess. Tomorrow I will go out and buy rubber feet. I just hope it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to add to this product what should have been included in the price.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Beautiful, functional. Great buy.   February 5, 2008

These lazy susans are awesome. I bought two, and now I am buying two more. They are beautiful and you get two, a 10 inch and a 14 inch. I put the 10 inch lazy susans in my cupboard to rotate spices. I am giving the new ones as gifts.
