Product Description Iron Chef cookware is produced using a new proprietary casting technology that enables the production of lightweight, thin walled cast iron cookware. The technology involves a new process, a special alloy, and unique tooling to create an iron casting with less porosity and more ductility. As a result the casting is not as brittle as conventional cast iron and can be cast into thickness that are less than half as thick. So each piece of Iron Chef cookware weights about half as much as its traditional counterpart.Iron Chef cookware has captured the key benefits of cast iron cookware--even heat distribution, good temperature control, and good heat retention--without the uncomfortable excess weight. And by using tempered cast glass lids, Iron Chef cookware further keeps its weight under control without sacrifice in performance or appearance. Each piece of Iron Chef cookware has two coats of high-fired enamel on the outside, one coat of enaml plus Whitford's highly durable, premium Quantanium non-stick interior. To keep the weight down, all attachment hardware is cast aluminum. And to remind us of the Iron Chef's Asian origins, the generously sized handles are made from burnished bamboo.Iron Chef cookware is a new concept in cooking. It provides all the positive of cast iron while covercoming the weight problem of traditional cast iron cookware. It is available in a tight col

Great skillet October 6, 2008 This skillet is pleasing to the eye and a pleasure to use. The handle is easy to grasp and is stay-cool. The skillet is much lighter than the traditional type of cast iron pan, such as the Lodge brand (of which I have several). The skillet has a non-stick interior and is easy to clean. The skillet conducts heat evenly. I also own the 8" skillet and the 1.8 Qt. sauce pan.
This pan is INCREDIBLE ! October 2, 2008 Maybe the previous reviewer should blame the delivery service. This pan in wonderful. It has all the great qualities of a cast-iron pan that has been broken in perfectly, yet it requires no break-in period. It has a better contour with slightly slanting sides, protective enamel and a handle that will not burn you. It is the perfect pan in every way. It heats up well and evenly and holds heat beautifully. The construction is perfect and sturdy.
I wish I had an entire set !
Poor Quality May 14, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was disappointed with the quality/design of this skillet. The handle screws into the pan. When I opened the box the handle was barely hanging on so I turned it to tighten and it fell apart. This pan is not worth the money in design alone.
