5 out of 5 stars HOW TO PROPERLY AND EASILY CLEAN THIS GRILL   November 7, 2007
We absolutely love this grill! The key to cleaning this is to pour water into the grooves, soapy or not, and to let it sit for several hours or overnight. Then, it easily cleans with a nylon scrubpad. EASY AS PIE! You must soak off the food debris in order to clean it readily. Also, ONLY POUR WATER OVER WHEN THE GRILL HAS THOROUGHLY COOLED to avoid damage to the nonstick surface, or warping.

2 out of 5 stars It does the job, but don't overheat it   June 9, 2007
I bought this product to use as an indoor grill on my gas square stovetop. The grill fits perfectly over two burners and accomodates a lot of food. I called the company because it was so difficult to clean. They told me first, not to overhead the pan and use it on medium heat and second to clean with a soft scrubber sponge or top rack dishwasher. They also sent me a new pan because the first one I ended up destroying the non-stick coating. With this new one I have been coating the pan with a thin layer of oil before cooking and only heating to medium and it is ok. With chicken you really have to oil the pan and don't turn the chicken over too quickly or else it will stick and then it is very hard to clean. It makes great grill marks and the food does come out as if it was on an outdoor grill. I just don't like the cleaning end of it and if you don't like that either then this product is not for you.

3 out of 5 stars It was worth a shot   May 9, 2007

I specifically bought this griddle because it said it could be used indoors or outdoors, so I bought it to try on the grill. My (rather inexpensive) propane grill has heat distribution issues. I thought this might help. I also suspected that it might destroy the griddle in the process.

The first time I used it, it worked great. I put the meat on the griddle right after lighting the burner. It cleaned up with a damp paper towel. The second time I used it I put the griddle over the heat and went and got the meat, leaving the empty griddle over the burner for maybe 3-4 minutes. It never was non-stick again. The meat stuck to it and everything after that stuck too.

After reading the other reviews, I'm not sure if the griddle is the problem or if there is a possibility that the heat was the problem. I don't think I really overheated it, but it's possible. It didn't discolor or flake off (yet). I have tried both sides and they both stick rather badly now. I've used the griddle maybe 6 times total. DuPont's Teflon site says you have to get it up to 500-600 degrees to ruin it. I have my doubts my grill can even get that hot.

On the bright side, I got it mis-priced and knew damage was a possibility. I will purchase an Analon or Calphalon quality griddle for indoor use and relegate this to outdoor duty. This one won't work for eggs or pancakes now.

Before the griddle, I had problems with over-cooking the outside of meat and under-cooking the inside on the propane grill. It greatly improved the heat distribution and cooking speed on the grill, it's just kind of hard to clean and not very non-stick as mentioned previously.

I give it 10 minutes or so to cool now and just dump some water on it while it's still hot (still on the grill with no lit burner), that seems to get most of it off.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth packing home   November 19, 2006

I washed the griddle prior to using it to fry an egg. I used some olive oil on the griddle. The coating stuck to the egg when I turned the egg over. The coating is not non-stick. After several uses there are four spots where the coating has "ripped" off. I used the grill to cook hamburgers once and I will go back to using my contact grill. Cooking the burgers is not as quick or easy as the contact grill is. To top off my disappoitment when put on the stove today I found that it had become warped. When I want to cook pancakes next time I will use my 50+ year old cast iron griddle.
