Great knives! Purchased as a gift, always sharp, compact block

4 out of 5 stars Great set for the price   January 9, 2007
I purchased this as a gift for my wife to replace our 5 year old knife set we got as a wedding gift. The quality is great, the knives cut much better than our old set and there's a better selection of knives to choose from depending on what you're cutting, carving, etc. The only down side is it's recommended to hand wash, but some of our cookware is the same way, so it's not a huge deal.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely knives/Unbeatable price!   January 8, 2007

You can't go wrong with these knives. I own a high quality 8" chef's knife by Calphalon. I can't tell the difference between it and the Pinzon...the appearance and performance are identical. With holiday discounts I purchased this entire set for about $28. How can you beat that? The block alone is worth more. Very satisfied!

5 out of 5 stars These knives are extremely sharp and very well made   December 23, 2006
I have been looking for a knife set for years, but couldn't bring myself to spend a thousand dollars on one. I only wanted the two paring knives in this set thinking that the larger knives wouldn't be that usable for the long term, but I ordered the whole set because the price was right. The knives are very sharp right out of the box! The handles are balanced very nicely. The handles are riveted onto the the blade of the knives which make these knives very sturdy and well crafted. I have had the Furi knives, and I know these new knives are going to be even better because they are heavy and extremely well balanced for my medium sized hand. Each knife performs it's cutting task to perfection, the bread knife cuts through the crustiest french loaf, the meat knife cuts thin slices, the steel works wonderfully.

I hand wash them, then dry them right away. Do not put these in the dishwasher. I usually give them a quick zip up and down the steel every other time I use them. I would recommend these knives to anyone who has always wanted a really nice set of knives.

2 out of 5 stars Beware, great price but blades do not stay sharp   December 14, 2006

I purchased this knife set in February 06 because of its low price and I should have been a little more skeptical since it was so low but I figured that since the set that I was replacing was inexpensive and lasted me five years why not go ahead and buy it.

When I received the package I knew that I was in for it because the box was very plain and there was not great care in packaging. The only save was that the blades had a plastic cover over the tips.

The first few times I used the knives I got a papercut they were so sharp. They cut through everything with great ease. After a month or so of using the knives they became dull so I used the steel for sharpening and it did well for the first few sharpening but it was never as good ad the initial sharpening. I purchased multiple other sharpeners and I never achieved anywhere near the initial sharpness of the blades.

It is now December 06 and I am looking for another set because no matter how much I sharpen the blades I can't cut a tomatoes without squishing it.

I must admit however they look and feel great but looks don't cut it. (sorry for the poor humor)
