3 out of 5 stars Pleased AND Disappointed   December 7, 2006

First of all, I ordered this set on 12/1/06 and it was delivered to me on 12/6/06 ... very satisified with the quick service. However, I noticed that in that period, the Price dropped by $5 ... my loss for not being patient. (This was purchased for our home use, and Not a gift... so there was no rush.)

While shopping for a Block Set, I narrowed my search to a Farberware Set, a Henckles Set, and this Pinzon Set. What I failed to notice before my purchase, was that this Pinzon Set comes with NO WARRANTY !!! Most others come with limited LIFETIME Warranties. That IS an important consideration. I would reccomend all to bypass all Pinzon Block Sets for this reason alone.

Although I have yet to actually use these knives, they do seem sturdy and weighted properly. I hope they will function as good as the Set looks.

Pay attention Warranties before making your purchases.

I'm very very picky about knives, but these past the test with flying colors! I was a bit surprised, but happy, with the weight of each knife- after using older, cheaper knives for the last few months, I'm back to where cooking is fun instead of a chore!

This has to be the sleeper deal on Amazon! I am very pleased With this set!
I do own HIGH END knifes. But at this price? WOW! I would think these would go for around 100-140 dollars if they had a well known name stamped on them.
Those who gave this set a bad review, Send them back and get you a 400.00 dollar set. This would make a great wedding/First home Gift! As it has everything you need..

1 out of 5 stars Did I receive the same knives as the rest of the reviewers?   October 27, 2006

Reading the reviews on this set as well as the great price led me to think I was getting a great value. When they arrived I was a little unimpressed with the packaging but once I pulled the knives out the initial look, feel, and weight will make you think this is a serious set. However, even upon the first use I quickly began to realize why they are so inexpensive. Even cutting something as simple as a tomato the skin torn and vegetable flattened and mangled from draggin the knife back and forth just trying to get a cut. These knives are pitifully bad, not just below average, but absolute junk. They look good on the counter and the serated ones work okay (but anything serated will cut a steak), but as far as real kitchen knives go these fall very short of being performers. I find myself using the steak knives to cut everything now which definately isn't the best option for most things. Because they're stamped, sharpening isn't really a viable option. They're not going to be easy to get a good edge on and they're not going to hold it very long either. Save up another 40-50 bucks and do it right the first time or you'll be disappointed like me.
