Soft, heavy, good absorption and value July 17, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
My husband and I are towel snobs. We took a chance on these specifically because the price made it a good gamble and so many reviews alluded to the heavy weight of the towels. We're extremely glad we did! We're so pleased with the quality of the bath sheets we'll now be investing in the rest of the sets from Pinzon.
Some important observations about the bath sheets: - the first time you wash/dry them, be prepared to empty the lint trap in your dryer several times. They will NOT dry in a timely manner unless you are diligent about emptying the lint trap several times. We consider this a very minor inconvenience.
- as with any type of towel, the use of liquid fabric softener or more than one dryer sheet is a no-no. That's even more true with these because they are so thick and heavy. Water will shed right off them once dry if you use a liquid fabric softener, and that's assuming you can get them dry in the first place. Fabric softener should not ever be used on towels anyway, but it becomes even more important to remember that with the Pinzon 820 towels. I suspect most negative reviews regarding absorption are a direct result of fabric softener use. We've been able to get away with using a single dryer sheet in with two bath sheets and not have a problem, just to eliminate static electricity, but we generally use a dryer sheet that's already gone through once with a smaller/short load.
- these are HEAVY. Don't discount the reports of their heaviness. For example, I would not advise purchasing these towels for anyone who is elderly or physically lacking in strength. Their weight is really THAT significant. I could actually see someone with physical strength issues struggling to dry themselves off with these towels, so they're probably not a good gift idea for elderly parents and the like.
- the colors in the images for Plum and Platinum are a little more towards the "slate" side of the color spectrum than the images demonstrate. Both are a beautiful shade, but they do have that powdery slate-like hue to them.
Overall, we're very happy with these towels and have no personal complaints with them. Comments in this post reflect things that may be of concern to other buyers - as far as we're concerned, these towels are a 10 out of 10.
"Luxury" is right! July 10, 2008 These bath sheets are almost too nice to use! They wash well and soak up water like a sponge. I will definitely buy more when I need them.
You've heard of the legendary Turkish Towel: This is it!!! June 29, 2008
You've heard of the legendary Turkish Towel: This is it!!!
My favorite hand-towel ever. Plush & thick does not begin to describe this towel. Great price. Washes very well. Looks new each time. When you dry your sopping wet hands, the towel is so thick, it is barely damp.
These are incredible towels, hand towels, & washcloths. I hope Amazon carries this product for many years. The colors are subtle, elegant & lovely. The Marine is terrific, the Flax sophisticated & the Pale Green (Sage) is an unusual color. White is beautiful. Butter is beautiful -I don't know why they don't have it anymore ??? too popular??? (not out of saffron, right?) These towels look costlier than they are-they are certainly neither flimsy nor cheap-looking.
These are thick, soft, & plush-so thick that the large towels would take all day to dry in the dryer. To get around this, I quick dry them, then let them air-dry to get out the bulk of the moisture. I finish them off in the dryer to soften them up (about 5 minutes). I use the spiculated blue dryer balls (6) in the dryer to dry quickly, plump & soften & save energy. In the washer, I use a bit of clear vinegar to soften & brighten things up -an economical fabric softener. Plus, commercial fabric softeners (cute teddy bear aside) actually destroy your textiles by wearing them away over repeated washing. My vinegar/dryer ball method keeps things nice for years (as in 10-15).
The extra large towel size is certainly appreciated by the guys! Why get a wimpy towel??
My only regret-I wish they'd get the butter yellow back (!!!) to match the great washcloths by Pinzon.
Wouldn't buy them again June 22, 2008 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
These towels are extremely heavy which you would think would make them very absorbent. That is unfortunately not the case. And because they are so heavy they take forever to dry. If I dry my hands on one in the morning, it is still damp at night. They take forever to dry in the dryer.
Also, because they are so heavy, they are hard to wrap around yourself after you bathe -- they slip off. I would forgive all of this if the towels were really absorbent, but they are only so-so in that category.
I would have returned them, but I love the color (plum) so I'll keep them, but I won't buy any more of them and don't recommend them.
